Hereditree

There is a huge amount of information to work with when creating a family tree. You have to assign various details and statistics to specific persons, define relations between them and much more. Hereditree makes it easier to create a genealogical tree. It allows you to store information in a centralized database, associate certain details with one or more persons and retrieve everything there is to know about a family member quickly and easy.

Hereditree is not free, but a fully functional trial version is available, which you can use without any restrictions, for evaluation purposes. It takes about a minute to download and install the software. The procedure does not involve complicated settings and you don't have to install additional tools or services.

The user interface displays a graphical representation of your family members and the relations between them. After creating the first entry, for any family member, you will be able to add fathers, mothers, spouses, siblings and offsprings. You can view five generations on the same window. When you select a member, the software will move him and his spouse to the center of the tree, so you can view their siblings, children, parents, grandparents and so on.

When adding a new person, you have to specify his or her gender, date of birth and death and specify if the person was buried or cremated. Dates can be marked with certain qualifiers, like "after", "before", "circa", "between" and so on. This can be quite useful if you are not certain of a person's date of birth or death. If you add an unrelated person, you may connect him or her later, with a mother, father, spouse and other members. The software also allows you to bookmark individual members, to make them easier to find.

Images and census entries can be inserted on separate windows. You don't have to select a specific person to create a census entry or import an image. You can build common databases and link their contents with one or more persons. You can bring up an information window, for any family member, on which you can find the information you inserted as well as events, like births, deaths, marriages and any other events, which you can define. Additionally, you can view or associate sources, images or tasks and print the person's information. A wide range of reports can be generated. You can opt for a family group sheet, a pedigree report, a descendants report and more.
